Tokyo court says a voice is a publicity right — but still denies the takedown

“The court said your voice is your face. Then it shrugged.”

The Story

In Japan’s first AI-voice ruling, a judge called a human voice a symbol of personality protected like a face. Tsuda sued over 188 monetized TikTok videos using an AI baritone fans heard as his, but the court dismissed the takedown because the videos were already gone.

Why It Matters

Identity law arrives one organ at a time; you can own a voice in principle and still lose because the ghost packed up.

Evidence

Tokyo District Court ruling (30 Sep); Nikkei Asia / Japan Times; plaintiff Kenjiro Tsuda.
